Select PDA Home
A PDA device or personal digital assistant is a small hand held device which is just one of the many time-saving devices available from the digital world. It wasn’t many years ago that computers were chunky machines and mobile phones weighed about the same as a house brick. Today a select PDA is small, lightweight and can do all the things those computers could do and more. The progress in technology is amazing.
The original intention of the PDA in the 1980s was to be a personal organizer. It was a digital Filo-fax and capable of holding vast amounts of data which were easily accessed and read on the LED screen. Today’s PDA models are a much more updated version of those old models. They can now be used to as a web browser and even be used as a mobile phone. The new touch technology makes forgreat ease of operation. A PDA device today which only stores and sorts data is nowhere near as popular as a PDA device which is also a smart phone. The latter handheld devices sell well in excess of 100million units per annum.
The technology is amazing
Many of today’s PDA devices can be connected to other devices such as a keyboard. But then why would you bother? The touch screen capabilities can produce a virtual keyboard and with a small touch pen you can type away to your heart’s content. Some PDA devices are so smart they recognize your handwriting and convert that into text. Smart is an apt description. Mind you some operators trying their hand at handwriting on the screen of their PDA are frustrated but others swear by the efficiency of the program.
It’s pretty certain you can add a memory card to your PDA today and that opens up another world of possibilities. They can often be used as a recording device and the added memory means still and motion picture photography is a standard feature.
The modern PDAs have a Bluetooth capability which is a wireless factor enabling your device to connect with other wireless units within a certain range.
Connect with anyone
In your office or home computer you will have a range of contacts and diary information. Much of it can be stored in your PDA but the ability to connect means that your PDA device can upload your diary entries for the day from your online computer no matter where you are.
Wireless connection is often possible as well with the ability of devices to synchronize with their other hardware units provided a signal can be obtained. There is even the use of SAT NAV technology to be accessed via a PDA. It makes the personal digital assistant the complete mobile office. You check your diary entries, send an email saying you’re on your way and then find the location for your diarized meeting using the satellite navigation software being displayed on the screen of your PDA. No wonder the armed services, parking officers and any number of professionals and others find their PDA has become a completely indispensable piece of equipment.
